The Skin Reset

Am I the only one that remembers our crazy teenage breakouts?  Hoping your Freddie Prince Jr. in high school wouldn't notice those spots that turn from molehills to mountains while the lack of experience in covering them up just made them shine even more.

But I’m a fully grown woman now and whilst I’ve embraced the fact that I’m past 35 which basically means pushing 40, dealing with hormonal breakouts now just feels UNFAIR.

Like we didn’t have enough to think about - cellulite, the start of wrinkles, the never-ending grey hairs and shedding more than a Labrador - really - could we not have just keep the pimples for those moments when blink 182 was cool?! Anyway.  If you do get these bad guys from time to time, here are some quick helpful nutritional suggestions to help keep hormonal breakouts at bay:

  1. Hydrate your whole being :

Hydration isn’t only about how much water you drink, but how much you actually absorb.  Incorporating plant based foods that are water rich helps us actually retain the water in our bodies for longer. Instead of only counting how many glasses of water you’re drinking daily, focus on the bigger picture goals for example, how many servings of fruits or veggies do you have in a day?

Including fruits such as watermelons is a great start since they’ve got a 92% water content. Try this recipe for this Watermelon & Brown Rice Poke Bowl. It take literally 5 minutes of active time in the kitchen. It’s rich in electrolytes, fibre and the potassium can help leaving you blissed out as it helps calm feelings of anxiety and stress. Brown rice has plenty of dietary fibre and provides your gut the prebiotics it needs to balance so it’s really a win win

2. Go Green

Leafy greens aren’t only water but fibre rich too, helping your digestive system thrive by giving your gut a good dose of essential microbes to support your skin, not to mention boost regeneration, soothe healing and shoot up your collagen levels.

Try these one pan veggie goodness Zucchini Egg Nests with Truffle that are simply divine and take 10 minutes from start to finish. They’re perfect for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Using a good quality olive oil in your cooking is so great for gut health by helping the growth of good bacteria in your microbiome so drizzle away!

3. Get your fats straight:

Trust me, not all facts are created equal and this is the easiest thing you can do on a daily basis.  Get a good unrefined, cold pressed, virgin olive, avocado or coconut oil and drizzle it over a bowl of your go green veggies.  These oily friends up your omega-3 fatty acids to balance hormones, inflammation and keep those spots on the low down.

Try this recipe for Cashew & Hemp Bliss Balls . They’re packed with delicious nutrient rich plant protein and dates will help satisfy your sweet fix plus they're rich in Omega 3 fats which helps keep that beating heart of yours healthy in all of 10 minutes. I always add some MCTs for an extra boost of energy and love the @nutiva chocolate or vanilla one.

4. A dose of Magic Dust

Think about a good probiotic (however you want to take it) as your fairy good mother in pill form to keep your gut microbiome balanced.  This magic pill will help the beneficial bacteria dominate the bad stuff = a happy gut which = a happy skin gut axis which = a morning glowy dewy face.

This Pistachio & Chia Seed Granola is a quick and delicious to have with Greek yogurt, a great way to start your day with a good dose of probiotic goodness.

5. Inflammation is not your friend

Boost your antioxidant levels by including ingredients that not only soothe surface inflammation, but the internal levels too.  A cup of green tea, specifically matcha is packed with an insane dose polyphenols to slow down cellular ageing.  Blueberries and cocoa have a similar effect too so up those in your daily meals.

This Adaptogenic Dark Chocolate & Coconut Granola is just what you need! Top with blueberries and you’ve got everything you need.

Have you ever noticed how what you eat affects your skin?  What works for you and what doesn’t? I’d love to hear from you! I hope these will help these simple tips and recipes help you be a super version of YOU. Happy Sunday!

Until next time, I hope you'll choose you,

Kavita
